Made from Shigaraki clay, an area close to Kyoto that is famous for ceramics and pottery.

[A Tokkuri is a common vessel in Japan. Larger sized Tokkuri were used to carry and store sake, shoyu (soy sauce) or vinegar. It was not until the Edo period that samller sizes were developed to serve sake directly into a cup.]
